Microsoft filed the phone patent in October 2014 and recently is has emerged that the concept phone is a device capable of extending three times, depending on the user’s display needs. On the move, it can stick to a phone dimension, easily stored in a jeans’ pocket. At a cafe, it can become a tablet for message shuffling or Facebook browsing. At work, it can turn into an even longer tablet so the user has full view of documents and e-mails.
The flexible hinge and folding display was imagined by Kabir Siddiqui, the same guy that patented Microsoft’s Surface kickstand previously. With last year’s Surface Studio success, the rumors of a Surface phone emerged and this patent suggests that engineers have thought about a 3-in-1 screen, similar to Razer’s Project Valerie.
After all, everyone had an idea about Surface Studio’s final design after patent filings of a 2-in-1 PC had surfaced months in advance.
