Europe and the UK have given Huawei the green light to build 5G networks on their territories, but with some restrictions like not installing infrastructure equipment at sensitive sites.
Vodafone CEO Nick Read told reporters on Wednesday that “this will take around five years to implement at a cost of approximately 200 million euros (around $220 million),”
In May 2019, President Donald Trump added Huawei to the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security Entity List, basically meaning it’s banned Huawei from US communications networks. US companies have to get a special license to do business with Huawei, the relationship between them and the Chinese government causing national security concerns.
The US government has requested allies in Europe to do the same thing, but the UK and the EU have approved Huawei for 5G with the caution that it should be excluded from building core parts of the network. Australia also banned Huawei from its 5G networks in August 2018.
