Still hoping that Cyberpunk 2077 might become playable? There’s a chance that the game will get properly fixed, because the CD Projekt leadership says ‘half the studio’ is still working on it to deliver the updates needed.
CD Projekt president and joint CEO Adam Kiciński announced this during the company’s latest quarter financial results, saying that the developers have launched major improvements and that “we intend to live up to what we promised our gamers in January”.
“While we already see major improvements, a large part of the team continues to work on making sure that Cyberpunk provides even better entertainment to gamers,” he added.
Cyberpunk 2077 promised to be a revolutionary game but ended up as a cautionary tale, against pre-orders and the gaming industry overall.
The game was launched before it was truly ready and the event was one marked by a huge scandal – Cyberpunk 2077 was nearly unplayable on most platforms, from PC, the leading one, to all the consoles, including the last-gen PS4 and Xbox One.
The PlayStation versions were so full of bugs and random crashes, that Sony did an unprecedented move and delisted the digital copy from its PlayStation Store. Even now, if you want to play Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation, you have to hunt down a physical copy in stores.
CD Projekt had to contend with not just the hate from the disappointed fans, the unprecedented amount of refunds they had to issue and even one investor suing them over the state of the game – they also faced a hacking attack that made headlines..
Back in February, hackers stole critical source code from both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, the studio’s most important titles. Those hackers then attempted to blackmail the studio into paying a large sum but CD Projekt refused to cooperate.
Now, months later, Cyberpunk 2077 buyers are understandably exhausted by the constant drama, so the news that more fixes and patches are on the way is certainly something that might help them regret the purchase less.
