Huawei has just outsold Apple, becoming the second largest smartphone brand in the world, after Samsung #mobilemagic
According to Counterpoint Research, Huawei has surpassed Apple in sales for the first time. During summer, in the months of June, July and probably August (but we’ll have to wait for official numbers during that month), Huawei’s shares in June were bigger than Apple’s and remained strong in July too, coming at more or less 12 percent.
Samsung kept its supremacy with just over 20% sales share and looks like it won’t be easily surpassed by either brands, Huawei nor Apple. The Chinese manufacturer has never been coy about its objectives. In fact, one year ago, Richard Yu was telling Reuters its plan was to “take them (Apple) step-by-step, innovation-by-innovation”. That meant becoming the second biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world by 2018… and, what do you know? It seems their plan is coming to fruition.
Of course, this victory might be short-lived. Summer is always a low for Apple, since everyone is expecting fall to purchase a new iPhone. So, we’ll likely see an increase in numbers in September, especially this year around, when Apple’s celebrating iPhone’s 10th Anniversary.
it could be very brief. Apple is gearing up to launch a major revision of the iPhone, one that is likely to result in a substantial sales spike. Furthermore, summer is usually Apple’s lowest point, as many of its customers wait out for a new iPhone in early fall.
Plus, Huawei was a no-show in the top 10 best-selling smartphones in July 2017. There, iPhone reigned, followed by Oppo R11 (and A57) and Samsung Galaxy S8. It seems the company is struggling to come up with a mouth-watering, must-have smartphone for Android users. Will things change with the arrival of Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro this October? We’ll have to wait and see…
