While some European countries like Germany still resist the trend of cashless society, London’s mayor Sadiq Khan just launched a program for contactless payments for street performers.
In London, you can now pay the various street musicians or performance artists with your card. The project is a collaboration between Busk in London, a new program for supporting street artists, and Swedish payment processor iZettle.
Contactless payments for street performers have been spotted in a few London areas over the past few weeks but the program will roll out across 32 boroughs soon. Those performers can set their desired fee and passers-by can pay them using cards, smartphones, and even smartwatches.
“London is a powerhouse of music, having produced artists from Adele to Stormzy, and The xx to Dua Lipa. For London to maintain its status as a global capital of music, it’s vitally important that we support the stars of tomorrow. Busking helps emerging artists to hone their talent and gives them the chance to perform in front of huge numbers of people. Now, more Londoners will be able to show their support to the capital’s brilliant, talented street performers,” said Khan.
