Detective Dot is Bright Little Labs‘ initiative to teach kids STEM skills through storytelling.
Who is Dot?
She is a nine year old girl who works for the CIA (in the world of Dot though, CIA stands for Children’s Intelligence Agency) and completes her missions with the help of coding, math and logic. It makes coding sound less intimidating all of a sudden, right?
The Bright Little Labs was founded by Sophie Deen, who used to run the computing training program for primary school teachers in the UK.
The project came to fruition thanks to Kickstarter, where it raised £14,500, with the help of 300 backers. In addition, Bright Little Labs was also given a helping hand from Turner Networks – who owns Cartoon Network, which will help Detective Dot reach a wider audience.
