Back in 2017, Huawei was dead set on overtaking Apple as the second largest smartphone maker but only managed to ship 153 million smartphones.
They are not giving up though and this year the company has set a target of 200 million shipped smartphone units. That means they expect a 30 percent increase in shipment, which is pretty big.

Yu Chengdong, Huawei’s CEO revealed the target at the Honor Play launch in China. His hopes are mainly held high due to the strong demand for Huawei smartphones that has skyrocketed in the second quarter of 2018 – the P20, P20 Pro, and the P20 Lite have proved to be popular among the users and generally got favorable reviews.
Since the March launch of the Huawei P20, the company has apparently shipped 6 million units.
At the moment, Huawei is focusing on the Asian and European markets in order to follow up on its target, but it still has to keep a good grip on China so it does not lose leadership in front of rivals like Vivo and Xiaomi.
If Huawei will manage to reach its target of 200 million shipped units remains to be seen – after all, in order to set such ambitious goals, we have to assume that Yu Chengdong already has some rough numbers at his disposal which gave him the confidence to make this statement and set such a target.
