When we first landed at MWC 2018 we definitely didn’t expect Alcatel to make a splash, but that they did!
The company announced a few new smartphones and a tablet, all of them with flagship features but a budget price point.
Let’s start with the priciest option, the Alcatel 5 smartphone that will cost €230.
This beauty has a bezel-less 5.7 inch Alcatel Fullview display with 18:9 ratio and 1440 x 720 resolution, really bringing the 18:9 flagship standard at an affordable price.
A dual-camera with 13 MP + 5 MP 120-degree wide angle sits at the front, while the back sports a 12 MP camera. We run down the full Alcatel 5 specs here.
Now let’s go to the Alcatel 3 series, available between €150 euro and €190. None of them have the metallic body of the Alcatel 5 series but do offer a curved, 2.5 D contoured glass design.
The Alcatel 3V, Alcatel 3X and Alcatel 3 all impressively offer the Alcatel FullView 18:9 displays, fingerprint sensors and Face Key for facial recognition.
All of them share the 3000 mAh battery and the 5 MP front camera, but let’s go over the differences.
The €190 Alcatel 3V has the following:
- 6 inch 2K (2160 x 1080) IPS display
- 2GB of RAM
- Dual-camera system on the back with 12 MP + 2MP secondary depth camera with LED Flash
- 5 MP front camera with Flash
- Android Prep
The €180 Alcatel 3X specs are:
- 5.7 inch (1440 x 720) IPS display
- 2GB/3GB RAM
- Dual-camera system on the back with 13 MP + 5MP secondary camera with 120-degree wide lens and dual-tone flash
- 5 MP front camera with Flash
- Android Nougat
The €150 Alcatel 3 spec sheet is:
- 5.5 inch (1440 x 720) IPS display
- 2GB of RAM
- 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture
- 5 MP front camera with Flash
- Android Oreo
The last phones on Alcatel’s list for MWC 2018 are the Alcatel 1 series, available at €99,99 and €109.99.
Surprisingly, they as well offer the Alcatel FullView 18:9 displays and Face Key. Of course, on the RAM and processor front, they’re seriously downgraded. That’s to be expected, considering the price.
The Alcatel MWC line-up doesn’t end here though. Check out the 1T Tablet series.
The Alcatel 1T 10 is the biggest of them, with a 10.1 inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB storage, expandable via microSD up to 128 GB.
With just 415 g in weight, it’s a decent lightweight option with an attractive price point – €99,99.
Under the hood, it has a MediaTek MT8321 1.3GHz quad-core processor and Miracast support. On either side, you’ll find a 2 MP camera. There’s also the option for a cover and Bluetooth keyboard combo, as seen in the picture.
The other Alcatel tablet, the Alcatel 1T &, offers of course a 7 inch IPS display with 1024 x 600 resolution.
While it doesn’t have Miracast support, it keeps the front and back 2 MP cameras.
1 GB of ram and 8 GB of storage and up to 128 GB storage via MicroSD complete the spec list of this lightweight, 245 g tablet that only goes for €69,99.
