All Microsoft Events Will Be Digital Until July 2021

PC: Xbox

Conferences have been affected by the spread of COVID-19. Many have either postponed or canceled entirely for 2020. Microsoft is taking an extremely proactive stance, announcing that all events will be digital until July 2021.

Based on a report by VGC, Microsoft’s current lineup of events (Ignite in September 2020 and MVP & RD in March 2021) will be held online. It should be noted that Xbox, a subsidiary of Microsoft, has already announced its originally scheduled E3 events would be held digitally.

It is unclear the exact plans for the lead up for the Xbox Series X given this announcement. A spokesperson told VGC that “for the remainder of 2020 [the company is] embracing the opportunity to experiment with new platforms to provide [their] partners, customers and developers the highest quality, digital-first experiences.”

So far, the announcements about the console that have trickled out have been largely digital, so this move may not actually impact the console’s promotion and launch.
