All the Awards, Announcements, And Surprises at The Game Awards 2020

The Game Awards has always been a venue to celebrate gaming’s best moments in the year while looking forward to years beyond. The Game Awards 2020 was no different, with several big announcements interspersed between the award winners.

Below, you’ll find the highlights of the announcements and at the bottom, the nominees and winners (winners in bold) for each of the categories.

Without further ado, here’s everything that happened at The Game Awards 2020!

Sephiroth for Smash 

It was previously announced that a new DLC character would be revealed for Smash Ultimate at the Game Awards, but few (if any) expected it to be the villain from Final Fantasy VII Sephiroth! Sephiroth joins Cloud as the only representatives from the Final Fantasy series, but both are some of the most iconic. Sephiroth will release sometime this month, with a Sakurai Presents scheduled for 12/17.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Season 3 

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout started as a summer phenomenon, quickly taking advantage of their explosive popularity. Season 1 of the game introduced players to its game show take on battle royale mechanics, with Season 2 adding a more medieval theme to it. Revealed at The Game Awards is Season 3 for the game, with winter themes, games, costumes, and emotes. This is all coming fairly soon on December 15^th.

Among Us 

Among Us took home two awards, Best Multiplayer and Best Mobile Game Award, but the team is certainly not content with settling. They revealed a new map called The Airship. As the name suggests, players will be placed on an airship as they seek out imposters. New tasks and different movement options are based on the airship theme. Additionally, there are new kill animations and places to spawn post-meeting. Finally, they put in a Geoff Keighley-inspired mask in the game.

Fortnite

Fortnite Season 5 recently started, its theme being hunting across the multiverse. Given its theme, Fortnite has become somewhat of a gaming cross-over, with Kratos and the Mandalorian joining as costumes. Three characters, Master Chief from Halo, and Daryl Dixon/Michonne from The Walking Dead, join the Fortnite universe. Additionally, a Capture the Flag mode on a classic Halo map will be added.
