With the COVID-19 travel restrictions and the safety measures taken, it became harder or, in some cases, impossible to visit our loved ones like our aging relatives living abroad.
The good news is that Amazon just announced a kit of new features for its Alexa devices meant to help aging adults connect with their family and keep them updated with their wellbeing.
The “Care Hub,” is the new option of the Alexa mobile app helping families keep in touch with older parents or relatives, from the distance. with their permission.
The feature will generate generic information about their actions, as well as alerts if a loved on called for help. After setting your Amazon account as their emergency contact, those in need can say “Alexa, call for help,” and Alexa will call you or will send you a notification.
For those having concerns about their privacy, Care Hub will respect their privacy by not giving specific information about their activity, but display it by category. For instance, ‘listening to music’ instead of mentioning the song. Moreover, in case the person displays no activity or no interaction with the device on a daily basis, the family is able to receive alerts.
The Care Hub was created to give reassurance to those concerned about an elderly loved one and their well-being, and are already being used in senior living centers facilities.
