If the Asus Zenfone 6 impressed you with its innovative flip camera and the 5,000mAh battery, among other things, the company still has another surprise up its sleeve: it has opened up the phone to the world of modding.
The Asus Zenfone 6 official bootloader unlock utility has been released, as well as the kernel source code for the phone, even if the phone has not yet become available. The kernel source code counts only around 200MB and you can download it via this link.
However, it’s worth noting that, if you do choose to download the unlocked bootloader tool, this might void your warranty.
The download document asks the users to acknowledge that “ASUS does not guarantee service satisfaction to any Revised Product, including events involving paid service requested by you to be performed to the Revised Product. Furthermore, such repaired Revised Product will not be covered under the warranty of the Original Product; the software of the repaired Revised Product will not be deemed the software of the Original Product and will not receive ASUS software updates.”
The Zenfone 6 is expected to become available for purchase sometime this week.
