Freezing temperatures shouldn’t make your fitness routine suffer. In fact, you can even change it a bit – skip on lifting weights for kayaking. Indoors, of course. The summer sport can now be easily simulated thanks to Coreyak #realitymagic
Entrepreneurs Brian Machovina and Eileen McHale came up with the kayak simulator as a way of building arm strength, engaging quads and challenging your core in the same time. The simulator is easy to store and to adjust according to your prior experience and overall fitness status.
The movement of the paddle is tracked via a wireless motion tracking unit and transmitted to apps developed by the startup. That means you won’t just paddle away, staring at the wall. Instead, you’ll be crossing lakes and travelling distances in a VR environment. All virtual reality content will be accessible through Google Cardboard or other smartphone-based VR headsets.
Users will be immersed in a high-def video world where they can explore exotic locations alone or challenge friends and family to a race. Either way, the simulator can track the progress made in terms of calories, speed, distance and number of revolutions of the paddle.
Coreyak is now crowdfunding on IndieGogo where you can grab one at $279 (earliest bird) with several POV videos included.
