Apple’s VR projects have long been surrounded by rumors but that’s set to change very soon.
Every industry analyst and expert is saying that Apple is about to launch an AR/VR headset but all the clues add up to RealityOS, an entirely new ecosystem.
What is RealityOS?
The first hint of Apple building an augmented reality and virtual reality ecosystem came back in 2017, when Bloomberg said Apple is working on a new iOS-based operating system known as “rOS”, designed specifically for augmented reality.
Now, a few years later, there are two major signs that Apple is indeed preparing realityOS.
Apple’s RealityOS trademarks
First, references to Apple’s new OS were found in Apple’s own code this January.
Then, this spring, a developer noticed that a company, in all likelihood Apple, registered the “realityOS” trademark.
Then, this very week, 9to5Mac reported on yet more trademarks registered by Apple, this time for ‘Reality One’, ‘Reality Pro’ and ‘Reality Processor’.
According to the outlet, this could very well be the name of Apple’s headset.
RealityOS launch date
So, it’s been five years of rumors and leaks – when can we expect RealityOS?
Considering on September 7th Apple will launch iPhone 14 and Apple Watch Series 8, it’s possible we’ll also see the first RealityOS device then too.
If not, next spring could be a safe bet.
Until then, here’s every information so far about Apple’s AR headset.
