Get Your Dose of Nostalgia With This Online Payphone Museum – And Contribute Your Own Pictures!

Remember when payphones were ubiquitous, so much so that people with cell phones were considered well-off snobs?

The Payphone Museum remembers – and wants your submission as well.

This museum is a fascinating collection of photos taken around the world and featuring more payphone designs than you thought were possible. It even has a few pay phone recordings with operators asking the callers to deposit 5 cents. Not to mention that website! Remember when web pages used to look funky?

Anyway, back to the topic of payphones. This digital museum is also a collection that lets people contribute and invites them to submit more content.

“With the increase in use by cellular telephones, the use of payphones has declined drastically in recent years. Pay Phones are now an “endangered species” in the world of telecommunications. In an effort to preserve their memory, this digital museum featuring pictures of various pay phones has been established,” says the site.

We browsed through all 43 PayPhone museum pages hoping to find both the popular models from our side of the world and the one used so heavily in The Phone Booth, one of Colin Farrells’s underrated movies.

Alas, no such luck, but hopefully someone will add them soon!
