The end of fall might catch you at war, face to face with Kylo Ren or Darth Vader. How come? Well, Lenovo is releasing a Star Wars augmented reality experience where you can wield a physical sword and see your virtual enemies fall #realitymagic
Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is Lenovo’s mobile augmented reality experience developed precisely for their AR goggles. To feel what it’s like to be in a Jedi’s shoes, you’ll have to get the kit, which is bound to hit the market in November. You’ll find the headset, a lightsaber and tracking beacon in the box. These will work with the Jedi Challenges mobile app already deployed by Lenovo for iOS and Android.
To get started, you’ll have to place the beacon on the floor in order to connect with the headset and enable positional tracking. That’s how you’ll be able to adjust the lightsaber controller and march into battle.
There are three game modes to choose from; in “Lightsaber Battles”, you get to challenge Kylo Ren, Darth Vader and other villains from Star Wars. Then, there’s “Strategic Combat” where you act like a commander, leading Rebel forces against the Empire in a tremendous ground assault. Finally, there’s “Holochess” for when you want to join a battle of the minds. To win this 3D chess game, you’ll have to think ahead and go with strategic, but no less ruthless, attacks.
If that sounds like fun, head over to Lenovo to place in your pre-order. The gear costs only $199, including the Mirage AR headset.
