Microsoft has announced on Tuesday that it has partnered up with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in an effort to help veterans that suffer with mobility limitations. The company will be distributing the Xbox Adaptive Controller to 22 VA rehabilitation centers all across the US.
Both the controller and other necessary equipment will be available for the veterans to use at events hosted by the VA Office of National Veterans Sports Programs and Special Events such as, for example, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games.
“We owe so much to the service and sacrifice of our Veterans, and as a company, we are committed to supporting them,” CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella said in a press statement “Our Xbox Adaptive Controller was designed to make gaming more accessible to millions of people worldwide, and we’re partnering with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to bring the device to Veterans with limited mobility, connecting them to the games they love and the people they want to play with.”
The controllers will be part of the therapeutic and rehabilitative activities that aim to activate the muscles and improve hand-eye coordination. In addition to that, the company hopes that by using them, they will also help the veterans become more involved in participating in social and recreational activities.
The Xbox Adaptive Controller was first introduced back in September 2018. It costs $100 and its design allows people who suffer with various degrees of mobility limitations to play games on Xbox One or on their PC more easily.
