If you’re tired of selfies and food photos on your News Feed, you’ll definitely appreciate Facebook’s invitation to share an entire world through 360-degree photos #softwaremagic #mobilemagic
From this moment on, you can let everybody see your latest experiments with panoramas or 360-degree photos (either taken with the phone camera or a special app) on Facebook. Simply upload them from your phone and they will be converted automatically in a special format. This will ensure they will be seen properly on desktop (drag-and-drop view) and smartphone (by rotating the device).
How will you discern between regular photos and 360-degree ones? There will be a compass icon on the upper righthand corner of the image in 360 degrees.
Even if you’re not enthusiastic over this type of content creation, you’ll still appreciate the feature since it can give you an unexpected view of events. As Facebook’s product manager Andy Huang states in the official release, “360 photos give you the ability to take the stage in front of 100,000 fans with Paul McCartney, get behind-the-scenes access to the Supreme Court via The New York Times, visit the International Space Station with NASA, and more.”
