While it might be almost two months until Christmas, you can already feel the holiday spirit engulfing our cities, not to mention what is happening with product campaigns around this time of the year.
Some people are already buying gifts in preparation or just to avoid the Christmas rush and, if you’re planning on getting someone a tech gift, or get yourself one, the latest iPhone might just be the one you have in mind.
However, it’s advisable to not wait for too long because you might not find it available for purchase soon enough.
Apple has announced its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2021, which ended on September 25th. As it was expected, the Cupertino company still managed to rake in a turnover of 83.4 billion dollars.
Luca Maestri, Apple CFO, said during the Q4 2021 earnings call that Apple’s September quarter results “capped off a remarkable fiscal year of strong double-digit growth, during which we set new revenue records in all of our geographic segments and product categories in spite of continued uncertainty in the macro environment. The combination of our record sales performance, unmatched customer loyalty, and strength of our ecosystem drove our active installed base of devices to a new all-time high. During the September quarter, we returned over $24 billion to our shareholders, as we continue to make progress toward our goal of reaching a net cash neutral position over time.”
However, quarterly revenue fell short of the initial expectations due to iPhone, iPad and Mac supply constraints which were driven by chip shortages and production outages related to the pandemic in Southeast Asia.
Chip Shortage Crisis, Solved? Sony and TSMC Could Team Up
Apple expects iPhone sales of 78 million units during the holiday shopping season, which is down from the 82 million initial forecast. All in all, these issues have cost Apple around $6 billion.
Thanks to these shortages and Covid-19 related problems, Apple faced long lead times on most of its products, Macs and iPad included. With the launch of the iPhone 13, all available models quickly sold out and Apple was unable to keep up with demand. Not only that, the waiting times for the iPhone 13 Pro are of several weeks.
On Amazon on the other hand, some of the color options for the device are not available anymore, while the availability of different memory options ranges from immediate to “Usually Ships Within 1-2 Months”.
So perhaps that iPhone 13 you were planning to get for Christmas is best purchased a little earlier, just in case.
