In-screen fingerprint readers could soon be integrated into a bigger number of phones, as well as VR/AR and smart home appliances because Qualcomm is teaming up with BOE – biggest display manufacturers – to integrate 3D Sonic Sensor into OLED displays.

According to the companies, fingerprint scanner sensors are faster and more secure than other implementations.

Of course, the partnership means a bigger customer base for Qualcomm, while handset companies could integrate the technology into their upcoming smartphones. Keep in mind that by now, Samsung is the only phone manufacturer to launch phones using Qualcomm’s 3D fingerprint sensor.

“Based on the collaboration, BOE will offer integrated displays with Qualcomm 3D Sonic fingerprint sensors to its customers,” the companies stated.

Users will be able to enjoy more devices using Qualcomm’s in-screen fingerprint technology in the second half or 2020.
