Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Will The Real Galaxy Note Please Stand Up? Specs, Features, Colors and More

There’s no other way to put this: Galaxy S22 Ultra is the Galaxy Note we deserve in 2022. Samsung made it pretty clear at today’s Unpacked event where the best model of its S22 series showed up. Here are the phone’s specs, features, colors and other details.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Design and Colors

The design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra has been streamlined without losing its Note vibes. You can see the Note 20 Ultra finishes in the almost invisible bezels, small hole-punch selfie camera and choice of colors – the new burgundy paint reminiscent of the copper and lilac the Note sported.

It’s obvious that Samsung may have skipped the phablet last year, in favor of launching its foldable line, but they are far from ditching it.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra proves to be a worthy successor of Note 20 Ultra or, if you want, an interesting cross between a camera-oriented S series and a power-focused Note one.

Besides its four standard colors, Samsung announced the phone would be available in three online exclusive shades:

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Camera

The rear camera is made up of five lenses without a camera bump to frame them, as they are rather built in, following the P shape design rumored months ago.

The camera hardware on the Galaxy S22 Ultra isn’t particularly thrilling, at least not when you look at the spec sheet. In fact, it’s almost identical to the one on the S21 Ultra, which makes it powerful but not surprising in the least.

The 108MP main shooter returns, with a 12MP ultra-wide camera in tow and zoom lenses covering the 3x and 10x focal lengths that puts them at the top of the industry.

What could be exciting in this area are the upgrades at software level, says Samsung. There should be better computational photography algorithms and ISP improvements thanks to the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: S Pen and Battery

The best part of the S22 Ultra is also what makes it unequivocally a Note: the S Pen. The stylus, as rumored, comes with the phone from the get-go, no need to buy it separately.

For that purpose, Samsung designed a slot for it in the bottom right corner of the phone. We haven’t tried it yet but Samsung says you can expect a latency between stylus input and screen animations of just 2.8 milliseconds.

The battery is still a 5,000mAh cell that you can charge wirelessly or via cable.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 3 New Features

If you’re wondering exactly what’s new about the Galaxy S22 Ultra, that would be three new features.

This time around, the 6.8 inch LTPO OLED panel is capable of adjusting its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, depending on the usage demands.

The screen of the Galaxy S22 Ultra can be mirrored to a Windows PC, an Android feature no other smartphone can boast right now.

Finally, from a productivity standpoint, you’ll be happy to know this phone has a Google capability not even Pixel sport. I’m talking about the “Live Sharing” feature of Google’s own Duo app. Again, for folks hoping to use Note for a lot of video calls, this is a definite win!

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: Price

As you can imagine, the Ultra is the priciest phone from Samsung’s new S22 line.

The smartphone starts at $1,199 for 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM and reaches $1,599 for 1TB of storage and 12GB of RAM.

Want to pre-order it? Hurry, pre-orders started today! Or you can wait for the official release date, February 25.
