Leveraging their new-found fame, Signal is ready to incentivize users even more with secure, 100% private payments.
The end-to-end encrypted messaging app is officially testing private mobile payments through its app in one part of the world: the United Kingdom. If you happen to live there and have waited for this feature for a while, now is the time to test it and speak up.
The beta program offers users the possibility to trade using MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency that values privacy as much as Signal.
“Signal does not have access to your balance, full transaction history, or funds. You can also transfer your funds at any time if you want to switch to another app or service.” points out Signal in a blog post.
Know about it or want to see how it works? All you have to do is update the signal app and link a MobileCoin wallet to your user profile. If you don’t have currently any MOB currency, you can go to cryptocurrency exchange FTX and buy some. It’s a smart move too since MobileCoin just got around $11 million in funding.
Once you’re done, you can pay your buddies back, as long as they have a MOB linked wallet!
There’s no date in sight for the global rollout but we can assume we’ll know more once Signal feels confident in their Payments feature.
