Starz announced they’re lowering the price of the annual Starz subscription which, paired with how cheap this streaming app is, can only be great news for our already-stretched budgets.

A smaller player in the crowded streaming market, Starz is owned by Lionsgate and when they were bought back in 2016, it was a huge deal. Lionsgate bought Starz Inc. for $4.4 billion in cash and stock and it’s fortunate that they did, because they have a lot of great content.

Starting with their next billing cycle, Starz subscribers will see the price they have to pay for the streaming service going from $74.99 to $69.99. 

It’s not a huge deal for Starz customers but how rare is it to see something like this going down in price instead of up?
Hopefully, this move doesn’t mean Starz is having financial trouble, as, even though it’s not as huge as Netflix, it used to be one of our favorite streaming apps. It certainly is confusing, because the price of a Starz subscription per month recently went up from $8.99 to $9.99.

Fortunately, there are plenty of deals to be had, including a Starz free trial.

Depending on where you go, you can get a Starz free trial for 7 days on Amazon Prime, and then switch to a paid $9.99 subscription.

Unlike most trailers who focus on epic music and empty lines said with a pompous tone, The Serpent Queen trailer is a great way to get an idea about what you missed. Samantha Morton, who plays Catherin De’ Medici, looking dramatically into your eyes, then narrating a truly wild ride.

What is The Serpent Queen about? If you missed one of the best series on Starz, here’s what the synopsis says.

“The Serpent Queen” tells the story of Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton) who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history. Catherine’s tale unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and imparts the lessons she’s learned to her new servant girl, Rahima (Sennia Nanua). At 14, the young, orphaned Catherine (Liv Hill) marries into the 16th-century French court. The Serpent Queen season 2 was greenlit almost a year ago, on October 2022, immediately after the first season launched.

Described by Kathryn Busby, President of Originals at Starz as “distinctly modern, darkly comedic, and completely unexpected”, this is one historical series that’s almost irreverent in its playfulness.

The Serpent Queen season 2 release date wasn’t yet published and many expected it to show up in September 2023. However, with the prolonged strikes in Hollywood from actors and writers demanding fair treatment, season 2 of The Serpent Queen could see delays.
