TAG Heuer is back with another over-the-top smartwatch, backed by Intel smarts. This time around, the model is completely modular, meaning you can swap every piece from the watch with other available options, building the accessory you really want #objectmagic
As you’d expect from a 2017 premium smartwatch, the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 comes with Android Wear 2.0 from the get-go. It then has the support of the Intel Atom Z34XX processor, 4GB of memory, a great battery life of 24 hours and water resistance up to 50 meters. It doesn’t sport LTE, but it does have Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as NFC support so you can use Android Pay.
That’s the gist of it, in terms of connectivity and smart functions. For now, at least, since Intel is preparing to release their own smart assistant in the near future, assistant that will be made available on this wearable, too. The Verge reports that the assistant will be able to help users starting from their current activities, as well as ask follow-up questions but won’t be limited by a gender or name.
Until then, the design of the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 is the one that will really sell the piece. The watch is completely interchangeable from module, to straps, buckles and lugs. The 45mm module comes in silver or black and can be changed with a mechanical one when the software becomes out of date. In this way, you’ll be able to retain the lux wristwatch and use it as a classic one. Another option is to trade the entire watch for a classic Heuer 02T Tourbillon Chronograph.
But that’s a discussion for a later time. Coming back to the moment of purchase, it’s at that moment when you can ask for a rubber, leather, titanium or ceramic strap in a great variety of colors. There are also the really special straps, which come with encrusted diamonds or are made from patent leather to a total of 50+ options. TAG Heuer says that you can create quite a unique design since, in the end, you have about 500 combinations available.
If you want to customize your watch according to seasons, occasions or moods, you can buy several options of straps, buckles and lugs and change them at home. You won’t need a tiny screwdriver for this, either; the gadget was assembled in a way that makes the swapping extremely easy.
The display of the Connected Modular 45 is a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen covered with a 2.5mm sapphire crystal glass and encased in titanium. Once again, the company is offering you several displays to choose from.
All these possibilities, coming from TAG Heuer, mean one thing: this baby is not for the faint of heart. The starting price is $1,650 and is set to launch in US, UK, Australia, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
