The organizing committee of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games really wants this edition to be one of the most innovative ones ever.

It announced the debut of the Tokyo 2020 Robot project, which will see robots helping wheelchair users attending the games.

“The Human Support Robot and Delivery Support Robot developed by Toyota Motor Corporation will allow all spectators to enjoy watching the Tokyo 2020 Games in greater comfort”, say the organizers.

Toyota will provide 16 HSR robots to assist spectators by carrying food, guiding people and providing information.

Panasonic will be lending a hand too, or better said an exoskeleton. Olympic Games attendees will be seeing the company’s Power Assist Suit on the employees, both in the Olympic and Paralympic venues.

“The Tokyo 2020 Games are a unique opportunity for us to display Japanese robot technology. This project will not simply be about exhibiting robots, but also about showcasing their practical real-life deployment helping people,” said Hirohisa Hirukawa, the leader of the Tokyo 2020 Robot Project.
