Uber’s edgy approach to hiring was bound to get in the media. As it turns out, the driver company is ready to hire engineers if they get through a series of challenges that appear within the app during a ride.
In #todaymagic, Uber is introducing “Code on the Road”. The name is part of the message people living in tech cities get upon opening the app. Uber is targeting only US cities that feature a lot of tech jobs, as Business Insider found out:
“The option to play gives interested riders the opportunity to show us their skills in a fun and different way — whether they code on the side or are pursuing a career as a developer.”
There are 3 coding challenges, each one needing to be completed in a maximum of 60 seconds. Once you go through them all and get out a winner, Uber sends you a message through the app to contact them.
This is not the first out-of-the-box initiative from Uber’s part. Just a couple of days ago, it lured hackers to find bugs that could compromise user privacy within their system for a $10.000 reward. We’ll have to wait for May 1st to see what happens.
