Uber seems to be going to its roots, focusing once again on carpooling with the Uber Ride Pass. An Uber monthly subscription of $15, the Uber Ride Pass promises “consistent, low prices” for those riders who rely on Uber for their daily commute.
In the post announcing the service, Dan Bilen, one of Uber’s product managers, addressed the issue of surge pricing, as it can be an unexpected inconvenience for those daily riders.
“You pay one low price for the ride to work, only to find the ride back home is a different story. You’re frustrated, and from that moment on you might think twice about leaving the car at home,” he says, adding that the Uber Ride Pass is an “a reliable alternative to driving yourself — an affordable option people can use for their everyday transportation needs.”
It’s hard to disagree with him, especially since the Uber Pass is indeed affordable at $15.
Right now, the Uber Ride Pass is available in Austin, Orlando, Denver, and Miami for UberX and UberPool trips. In Los Angeles, the price is bumped to $25, because Uber will also include there its ebikes and scooters soon enough.
To sign up for the Uber Ride pass, you just need to be in one of those regions and select the option inside the app. It even shows you how much you’re saving as compared to regular rides, so you’ll see exactly if the Uber subscription is going the extra mile for you.
