World of Warcraft Animated Series to Be Released

If you’ve played Blizzard games like Overwatch, you know that the company has an excellent grasp on animation and storytelling. Some of these animations are so well done that fans of their games have been asking them to create full-length series. This wish may soon be granted.

As reported by The Verge, Blizzard will be releasing an original animated series based on their game World of Warcraft. Titled Afterlives, the animation seems to depart from its 3D model style and go for a more aesthetically unique look akin to rugged comic book art.

Although the teaser is vague, it does give clues to what it might be about. In particular, the video ends with an advertisement for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands (the next expansion pack for the game). Given Blizzard’s penchant for advertising new events, characters, and more with short animations, it is possible they could be using this animated series in part to promote Shadowlands.

The series will premiere August 27^th at Gamescom 2020.
