This just in: a fast-food company had a good idea and that idea is the McDonalds Boombox. This McDonalds Boombox is actually a recyclable drink tray that doubles as a portable speaker, capable of increasing your smartphone speaker’s powers by 101 percent.
Though the technology seems limited, this McDonalds Boombox was created with the Audio Research Group from the University of Waterloo, alongside the industrial design group Stacklab, and features foil-embossed double cone speakers.
The project was born to celebrate the McFlurry’s 22 year anniversary, a beloved ice-cream born in Canada. Because the McFlurry is Canadian, the McDonalds Boombox is also limited to an extremely limited Canadian launch. It’s part of a one-time promotion for McFlurry at Woodbine Beach in Toronto.
Hopefully, McDonalds will consider releasing it in other territories, because it’s a really good idea. Forgot your speakers at home and planning a picnic? Just drop by McDonalds for an icecream.
See, KFC? You can turn cardboard packaging into something useful – just not a game console.
