RED Hydrogen One Gets FCC Approval. Ready for a Holographic Display?

red hydrogen one fcc approval launch

It has been more than a year of waiting for those who fell in love with the promise of the RED holographic Hydrogen One phone and soon that will end: the amazing device just got FFC approval.

The FCC approval, while it doesn’t reveal a release date, does give more details into the long-awaited and long-preordered device. Through it, we now know that it will come with a massive, 4,510 mAh battery, dual SIM slots and, with the exception of Band 71 from T-Mobile, it will support for all US LTE Bands.

While the RED Hydrogen One could be preordered for $1,195 for the aluminum model and $1,595 titanium model, no one knows what the final retail price will be. Indeed, everyone expected RED to launch it this spring. In May, RED’s Jim Jannard said that they’re aiming for an August release and the delay was due to carrier certification. Now that the FCC approved Hydrogen One, it’s likely that release date will be met.

Back in January, the Hydrogen One was supposed to be powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor but the delay could mean something good: perhaps an upgrade to Snapdragon 845 or the upcoming, even more powerful chipset.

In any case, all eyes are pointed to the Hydrogen One not for sheer processing power but for the awe-inspiring display. A 5.7-inch, 2560 x 1440 px affair, it will showcase 3D images that change based on your viewing angle. Even more, it’s an impressive video recording device, offering the chance to capture both 2D and 3D footage.
