IMAX and DTS announced their IMAX Enhanced program back in September 2018, revealing that movies and series digitally remastered in 4K with DTS:X sound will soon be available for streaming, bringing cinema quality to home users.
Since then, the companies seem to have kept busy, striking a few major deals that are going to take binge watching to the next level!
The companies just announced signing up Tencent Video, FandangoNOW and Rakuten TV to distribute IMAX Enhanced movies and content. The first titles that were released through the IMAX Enhanced program, Journey to the South Pacific and A Beautiful Planet, came out in December in 4K HDR with DTS:X sound. Soon, they’ll be followed by blockbusters like Venom and Alpha.
And that’s not all. IMAX and DTS announced a host of new partners at CES 2019, so it’s clear that this year will bring some pretty great content through a wide variety of devices.
Arcam, Elite, Integra, Lexicon, Onkyo, Pioneer, TCL and Trinnov were announced as new IMAX Enhanced device partners, joining Sony Electronics and Sound United brands, Denon and Marantz.
“We are pleased to announce the growth of the IMAX Enhanced ecosystem with leading studios, streaming services, and device partners who share our vision of raising the bar for home entertainment by delivering the highest quality content to premium devices,” said Xperi EVP and Chief Products and Services Officer, Geir Skaaden in a press release.
