We have seen quite a bit of the Snapdragon 710 SoC, which was announced about a year ago – the chipset made an appearance in a number of devices from companies like Oppo and Nokia and now Qualcomm has announced that the Snapdragon 710 will be getting a small upgrade, in the form a of a new chipset: the Snapdragon 712.
This chipset is a 10nm with 64 bit architecture and 8X Kyro 360 CPU cores. It has the same Adreno 616 GPU and Snapdragon X15 modem as its predecessor, the 710 but the difference between the two rests in the clock speed.
The Snapdragon 712 comes with a clock speed of 2.3GHz, whereas its predecessor only produced 2.2GHz.
Thanks to the Quick Charge 4.0+, the charging speed also sees a bit of an improvement: according to Qualcomm, the Quick Charge will ‘take your phone from 0% to 50%’ in just 15 minutes.
The Snapdragon 712 also delivers a 35% improvement in graphics performance and 4K HDR playback that will deliver over 1 billion color shades.
We can expect the chipset to make an appearance quite soon in a number of budget and mid-range smartphones that will be released throughout the year.
