Boston Dynamics’ SpotMini Gets Jiggy With It

We’ve seen a lot from Boston Dynamics: Atlas jumping around like the best of CrossFitters out there and the SpotMini helping its robot friend open a door. Thought you’ve seen all they can do? Well, it looks like the Boston Dynamics engineers still have some surprises for us.

In the latest demo, Boston Dynamics programmed the SpotMini robot to dance to one of the best songs in history one can dance on – “Uptown Funk”, that is. The video speaks for itself, really, but it also holds testimony to how far Boston Dynamics advanced, in just a few years – the SpotMini slides and glides like it’s nobody’s business.

The robot is set to go on sale in 2019 and it will be the first time in about 26 years that Boston Dynamics is selling one of their robots as a product because, until now, it has generally been contracted by government agencies and survived on investment cash.

The SpotMini is intended to find a purpose in the industrial, security and maintenance sectors so it’s not really a machine you’ll want around the house. I know I would, but I’ll probably never be able to afford it.

Boston Dynamics did not announce what price tag will be attached to the SpotMini but with moves like that, I bet it won’t come for cheap.
