Just yesterday Corning was announcing Gorilla Glass 6, a glass that is supposed to survive up to 15 drops, and now the company decided smartwatches could use a bit of that added protection as well.

Corning Gorilla Glass DX and Gorilla Glass DX+ plan to keep your smartwatch safe. Both versions include scratch resistance of the same type as typical Gorilla Glass products but apparently their best feature is that they improve the readability of the display.

The two versions improve it with 75% better front surface reflection. Compared to standard glass, it’s a big step forward as that one only augments the contrast ratio of the display with 50%.

The only difference between the two versions is that the DX+ comes with superior scratch resistance that is closer to that of “alternative luxury cover materials.”

For now, there are no products that ship with either versions of the glass but most likely they will be used on the next smartwatch generation to come out. For someone who is notorious for scratching and bumping her watch on every available surface, I must admit I am looking forward to it.
