DJI is not ready to take a vacation. Instead, the company is gearing up to announce what most insiders believe to be the Mavic Pro 2. Considering how impressive the foldable Mavic Pro was, you’re definitely in for a treat this year!
The official invite doesn’t state much more than the hour and place of a DJI event. On July July 18th, the company is expecting the media in New York and we think the reason is one Mavic Pro 2 drone. Some are speculating that a Phantom 5 is in the works, but something tells us we’ll have to wait a bit more longer for that one.
What could this successor improve upon? For one, ruggedness. A foldable drone won’t ever be indestructible, but if DJI made the joints stronger and the gimbal guard more robust, it could really win a couple of points with drone aficionados.

DJI could increase the flight time, from the Pro Platinum’s 30 minutes to at least 33 minutes. The next Mavic Pro could also surprise us with better range, of about 5 miles instead of the current 4.3 miles. If they’re in a giving mood, we might even get variable aperture, a 1-inch sensor, getting closer to the performance Phantom 4 Pro offers.
Since DJI equipped both Spark and Mavic Air with gesture control, they will likely bring the same feature to this Mavic Pro model. If they do, such a “package” would go for $1300, at least.
