After the first-party focused Xbox Games Showcase, fans were left largely disappointed by Halo Infinite’s lackluster visuals and gameplay. This backlash may have been the impetus for the announced delay of the game to 2021. Now, there are rumblings that there may be even more bad news for the game.

In a report from Video Games Chronicle, an insider on Resetera (an online video game forum) has claimed that Halo Infinite may be entirely dropped from the Xbox One. Apparently, the development team is having trouble optimizing the game, leading to performance issues at or above 900p. Although certainly just rumor, this insider been accurate about Xbox games in the past.

If Halo Infinite is dropped from the Xbox One, that would be a huge blow to Xbox’s credibility. This is in part because they claimed confidently that first-party games would be released on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles.

Additionally, it appears that Microsoft is willing to delay the release of Halo Infinite beyond 2021 if necessary. This would certainly be frustrating for many looking to get the Xbox Series X as Halo Infinite is the largest game to be coming to the system. Expecting it as a launch title only to have to wait two or more years for the game could certainly turn fans away from the console (at least at launch).

More news on the game’s release will likely be announced as the Xbox Series X comes to market. We can only hope that the game turns out the best it can be and those developing it aren’t put under too much stress to make it so.
