Instagram users have long used their bio to indicate their preferred pronouns. Now, they have an official field to do so, without taking up space in the bio.
Instagram officially announced the feature on Twitter, saying that the pronouns space in Instagram profiles is only available in a few countries, with more to follow soon.
We confirmed it’s live in the US so, if you want to add your pronouns on Instagram, here’s how to do it.
Go to your profile page, select “Edit Profile” and scroll to the empty Pronouns field.
You can’t put anything you want there, as the company probably wanted to avoid jokes about gender and other insensitive remarks.
Instead, you can find a pre-made list and pick up to four pronouns. You can also select the privacy of the info and share your gender either publicly or with followers only;.
As TechCrunch noticed, most of the popular pronouns from this list are already available and Instagram will probably add even more inclusive options soon enough.
Last we heard of Instagram features, Facebook was planning to launch Instagram for Kids, an entirely separate social media platform for users under the age of 13.
The move sparked an intense backlash, with more than 44 US attorneys general writing to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to reconsider the move.
The company had intended to launch the separate Instagram for Kids in order to give parents more options to protect the welfare of their children.
