There are only a few days left until MWC Shanghai but leaks are already pointing out to a big announcement: the new Huawei Kirin 1020 processor is coming!
While the Kirin 970 was a powerful processor with a world-first dedicated AI unit, it was eclipsed by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, which is used by devices like the Asus ROG, possibly the ultimate gaming phone, and the newly-announced Oppo Find X.

The Kirin 980 found in the Huawei Mate 20 aced the AnTutu benchmark isn’t even out yet, but Huawei plans to go even further in the race against Qualcomm. According to this report, it seems that there’s another chipset on its way and it’s even more powerful than the Kirin 980.
Huawei is allegedly hard at work on the Kirin 1020, a new processor that will be here just in time for 5G. Apparently, it will be twice as strong as the Kirin 970 and could help Huawei take the throne that’s now comfortably occupied by Qualcomm.
Stay tuned, as we’ll try to get this confirmed at the next MWC.
