Nintendo First-Party Games, Direct May Be On the Horizon

Nintendo first-party announcements have been sparse this year, with Pikmin 3 Deluxe being the only game scheduled to release in 2020. A slew of rumors have come out recently that seem to point towards some big Nintendo announcements coming as soon as this week.

For starters, there are rumors that there will be a Nintendo Direct this Friday. Rather than an Indie World and a Mini Direct Partner Showcase which features third-party games exclusively, a full length Nintendo Direct often includes big first-party releases. There’s still speculation that Nintendo will be celebrating the Mario’s 35th Anniversary with a 3D Mario Collection.

Although not confirmed, this comes from a fairly reliable source: Jeff Grubb of Venturebeat. As reported by Video Games Chronicles, Grubb did not guarantee the content of the Direct (whether it would be first-party or third-party) but does believe that Nintendo will have first-party related announcements before their mid-September investor’s meeting.

Grubb’s speculation may be corroborated by a separate report by Video Games Chronicle concerning a publication announcing it had a big Nintendo-related announcement. The publication, Nintendo Dream, has stated in their next issue,  there will be an upcoming Switch game poised to excite fans. Given the timing of their next issue (September 19th) and the investor’s meeting, it may be likely that a Direct is on the horizon.

If Nintendo does have a Direct set up for Friday, we’ll likely hear about it on Tuesday or Wednesday.
