Oppo Find N is definitely one of, if not the most interesting smartphones of the moment: to begin with, it’s not only the very first foldable device from Oppo, but it also apparently sold out in China within five minutes of the pre-orders being opened.
It has a lot of things going for it, sure, but, as is the case with all foldable smartphones, the question remains: how reliable is it? Not in terms of software but in terms of build.
Well, if you had a few questions about this, JerryRigEverything got down to business and performed his usual durability tests on the new device.
Oppo Find N is protected out of the box by Gorilla Glass Victus, which is installed in its origin factory and rates 6 on the Mohs hardness scale. The quality of Gorilla Glass showed: the phone withstood the grueling scratch test with flying colors, meaning that you shouldn’t worry much if you drop your phone in a bag or backpack, alongside other ‘scratchy’ items like, say, your keys.
Both the front and the back performed very well, actually damaging the razor that was inflicting the damage, which is no easy feat.
On the other hand however, the inside of the phone is not as durable as the outside, as it is to be expected, I suppose – the glass screen is protected by a thin film of plastic, so you can scratch it with your fingernail if you try hard enough. The users should be fine though, as it requires a bit of intentional work to get to that level of damage.
Oppo has used a ‘Flexion Hinge’ made up of 136 components for the device and it shows: during the bending test, the phone showed no damage, which is very good news for a foldable.
Next, JerryRigEverything went harder and covered the phone in gravel, to check if this would cause problems for any of its moving parts. Again, a surprise: Oppo Find N continued to work without a hitch.
It seems like the Oppo Find N might just be the foldable that changes the game. For the time being, the device is only available in China, but, with good reviews coming in from all sides, we might see a global release sooner than expected.
