The Pokémon Company has just celebrated Pokémon Day with its almost annual Pokémon Presents.
This year, the highlight certainly goes to reveal of generation 9 Pokémon games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This new generation is set in what the game’s official website calls “a richly expressed open world.” Indeed, Pokémon are seen roaming around similar to how they are in Pokémon Legends Arceus and the transitions from area to city seem not confined by routes like in previous games but are seamlessly connected. The starters were also shown and while the designs seem a little uninspired, there’s still a lot more to learn about this region before the game launches in late 2022.
Both current Switch titles, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as well as Pokémon Legends Arceus will also be receiving updates for Pokémon’s 26th Anniversary. Players can log into the former to receive the mythical Pokémon Shaymin. The latter will receive a Daybreak update which will let trainers explore mass outbreaks, engage in more battles within Jubilife Village, and receive additional Pokéballs through the mystery gift function. Additionally, an online animated series set in the Hisui region is currently in production.
The Pokémon Company’s mobile and continuing game lineup also received anniversary updates. Pokémon GO players will finally be able to catch Alola region Pokémon starting March 1st with Alolan Executtor frolicking throughout the game until then.

Pokémon Masters EX will receive a new Victory Road Challenge, defeating which unlocks partner trainers Syngana Suit Red, Blue and Leaf as well as 5,000 gems. Additionally, special anniversary trainer pairs will be available – May and Latias (Feb. 28th – Mar. 31st), Skyla and Tornadus (Mar. 2nd – Mar. 31st), and Raihan and Flygon (Mar. 4th – Mar. 31st).
Pokémon Café Remix will receive a new delivery feature, which essentially invites different Pokémon like Victini to come to your café. Additionally, there will be three special events for Pokémon Day – Bulbasaur Day, increased chances of receiving a Shiny Piplup, and 11x deliveries at no cost.
Finally, on certain days with Pokémon Unite, players will be able to try out all Pokémon available within the game. Additionally, the mythical Pokémon Hoopa is set to join the ever expanding roster, one which was revealed to include Duraludon in the near future.
