Lava is a popular Indian smartphone brand which has more or less maintained its popularity in the country for a long time.
While it has lost ground to Redmi and Xiaomi in the past, the company has found new footing as of 2020 and has now released a new smartphone under its ‘X’ series, the Lava X2.
This phone can only be purchased online by the Indian market via Amazon, and comes with a price tag of just INR 6,999, which roughly translates to $90/€85, after conversion.
So, what does it offer for this price?
To begin with, the phone has a 6.5 inch HD+ IPS screen with 20:9 aspect ratio.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a MediaTek octa-core chipset, however, the company doesn’t mention the exact name of this processor on its website or in any other available materials, which is a little odd.

The chipset comes accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be further expanded via microSD.
The Lava X2 features a 5MP selfie snapper on the front while the back hosts a dual camera system made out of an 8MP main snapper and what it is assumed is a 2MP depth sensor or a QVGA unit. Again, there’s yet no information available about it thus far.
There is a 5,000mAh battery without fast charging and, according to Lava, the phone takes around 3.45 hours for a full charge.
The company says however that, once fully charged, you can get around 38 hours’ worth of talk time, 480 hours worth of standby with your mobile data turned on or 10.5 hours of YouTube playback.
Tejinder Singh, Head-Product for Lava International has said of this launch: “We are witnessing a significant shift in the buying pattern of the consumers. More and more customers now prefer buying their gadgets online and to keep pace with this changing trend we have introduced our online exclusive X-series of smartphones. Lava X2- the first smartphone in this series has been specially designed to cater to the needs of budget buyers. The smartphone is packed with exciting features like fingerprint scanner, face unlock, big battery and huge HD+ IPS display.”
The phone comes in two color options: Dark Blue and Cyan and can be pre-booked on Amazon until March 11, in which case those who choose this option will pay INR 6,599 for it, which is around $85/€80.
The open sales will begin the next day, on March 12.
