Finally, you’ll get to stream your favorite Marvel Universe movies in IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio thanks to IMAX Enhanced format.
One of the main reasons Marvel fans book an IMAX cinema ticket the moment a new title in the MCU arrives is the superb, expanded aspect ratio the format offers.
Who can resist the breathtaking visuals these action-packed movies come with? The superb fight scenes they offer every.single.time? Not that many, I’ll tell you that.
As for the rare exceptions… well, even those will cave this year, as watching a blockbuster in IMAX’s expanded format will be possible straight from their couch.
Disney teamed up with DTS and IMAX to bring the latest and hottest MCU movies to the small screens in IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio, as IMAX Enhanced titles.
What Marvel movies will be in IMAX Enhanced on Disney +?
This means selected Marvel Universe movies will be available to stream in the 1:90:1 aspect ratio, which offers up to 26% more picture for select sequences. More of the action will be visible on screen, just as the filmmakers intended.
Starting November 12th, Disney+ will make 13 titles available as IMAX Enhanced content from the Marvel Universe: Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, as well as Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, and Black Widow.
With IMAX Enhanced on Disney+, subscribers will only need to hit play to watch their selected titles in this format. However, content availability will vary by region.
“Disney, Marvel Studios, and IMAX have collaborated for years to bring the world’s most popular films to the big screen, and on Friday we’ll start to bring IMAX technology to subscribers with IMAX Enhanced viewing in the Disney+ app,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney+ and ESPN+. “We’re thrilled to create new value for Marvel fans and audiences on Disney+, and we’re looking forward to offering even more IMAX Enhanced functionality in the future.”
What is Paull referring to? Most likely, the audio calibrations of IMAX Enhanced. As you know, IMAX Enhanced content is usually delivered with both visual and sound enhancements in order to match the IMAX experience in theaters. Soon, we’ll likely see more Disney+ content coming with both the expanded aspect ratio as well as the immersive IMAX signature sound by DTS.
Disney+ is the first major streaming service to elevate the at-home viewing experience with IMAX Enhanced; considering the streaming race we’ve noticed of late, I say it will soon be joined by others.
