Apple presented the iOS 13 at WWDC 2019, and it took about two and a half hours to showcase all the new features it brought. This was one of the biggest new iOS releases in recent history.
It came with user-facing aesthetics like the systemwide dark mode, as well as under-the-hood improvements like 2x faster app loading and much-improved app update speeds. With that, came quite a few bugs which left Apple fans with a bitter taste.
The new iOS 14 on the other hand, promises as many new updates but with fewer bugs. Apple’s head of software development Craig Federighi has put a new system in place, named “Azul,” resulting in a much more streamlined process. All buggy and unfinished features have to be turned off by default in the daily builds, and the testers can then choose to flip the switch at will, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
Here are some of the rumored features we can expect from the new iOS 14:
- Homescreen customization with widgets and smart dynamic wallpapers
- Change default apps and partial installation with ‘Clips’
- AR Maps
- Offline Siri
- PiP for videos
- Fitness app
- iMessage retraction and a typing indicator
- Find My app with AR mode and location triggers
- Blood oxygen levels for Apple Watch
Probably the most interesting one is being able to create smart dynamic wallpaper for the home screen and resizable widgets.
According to 9to5Mac, the new feature found on iOS 14 graphics is being called “Avocado” internally.
Perhaps, if some of the new features won’t perform to Apple developers’ satisfaction, we won’t see them until iOS 15 in 2021.
