Last June, HTC introduced the Vive Cosmos virtual-reality headset for those who wanted a high-end device.
Now, the company is pushing the “high-end” label even further with the Vive Cosmos Elite, an $899 device available for pre-order now.
The Elite model shares the foundation with the other Cosmos headsets – the flip-up design and the 1,440 x 1,700 LCD display – but ups the ante with SteamVR Tracking.
That means it’s covered with sensors that detect tracking signals from the two external base stations included in the package.
In short, if you buy the Vive Cosmos Elite, you will have to use the Vive wand controllers, not the ones for the rest of the Cosmos models.
It’s a bit of a head-spin, but that’s nothing new for VR, right?
The Vive Cosmos Elite Elite will start shipping March 18.
For that eye-watering price tag of $899, you will get the headset, the two SteamVR Tracking 1.0 base stations and, of course, two Vive wand controllers.
There is also a code for a 6-month VIVEPORT Infinity subscription that usually goes for $89.
It’s still not cheap, but if you are looking to the full experience with the legendary Half-Life 3 launching on March 23rd, the Cosmos Elite seems to be it.
The release of the device five days after the most hyped game of the decade sure ain’t a coincidence.
It might not be Episode 3 but Thank Gaben, because Alyx will definitely kickstart the VR industry again.
