iPhone 13: Chip Shortage Might Affect Pricing

There has been a lot written about the current chip shortage, from the shortages the automotive industry has been facing, to the one the smartphone industry has recently begun to feel the pinch of.

We know that Apple is one of TSMC’s biggest customers and that the company has booked a good number of orders, which has pushed the company’s manufacturing lines to work to almost full capacity – its 5nm production facilities are fully booked and, as of recently, there was word that the 3nm orders have also been completely booked as well. 

With all this in mind, the question of how much the iPhone 13 will cost has been popping up a lot recently and now we have finally been dealt a blow: Apple is allegedly looking into increasing the price of the iPhone 13. 

This is because TSMC has announced that it is planning on increasing the cost of chipset production, which will impact a good number of customers, to up to 20% for the company’s “advanced and mature process technologies.” 

This increase will go into effect in January 2022. For the company’s advanced sub 7nm technologies the price will rise bny 3 to 10%, according to a number of sources. 

With these increased production financial demands, Apple will hike up the prices in order to mitigate the costs. 

We also need to add that the iPhone 13 will bring along a number of significant improvements for its upcoming smartphone, including in terms of software for its cameras, which will focus on offering features designed for photographers and videographers.

On the Pro or Max models of the lineup, Apple is expected to add ProRes support for videos and portrait mode videos. With this in mind, in addition to the already hiked up price of the chipsets, we can expect to see a considerable difference in pricing. 

Apple will hold its annual event soon, though it will most likely only do it online, where it will announce the iPhone 13 and the Apple Watch Series 7, so we will find out more information then and we will keep you updated.
