The patent application was discovered by Dutch blog MobielKopen and in it the device is described as a foldable Android smartphone. The company calls it an “electronic device with hinge and similar systems and methods”.
The phone seems to be intended to have a pretty large display that folds inwards, much like a wallet would. It’s probably the first time we are faced with a design that features a continuous flexible screen, as opposed to one whose bottom half is used as a keyboard or a second screen.
Pretty much all the big names in the game have been looking into foldable or flexible screens, with Apple and Samsung being just two of them, with the latter one having been rumored to work on flexible displays since years ago.
Nonetheless, the patent does not confirm the phone will ever see the light of day, but we’ve all been waiting on something that looked like the Motorola RAZR concept phone to come to life for a long time, so here’s to hoping.
