The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Unite will be coming to Switch this July! Then to mobile in September!
Pokémon Unite was a surprise announcement made last June at a company’s Pokémon Presents. Unite combines Pokémon’s plethora of interesting original characters and moves with a 5v5 multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) setting.
Perhaps what makes this game unique is the Pokémon specific features, namely the leveling up mechanic. According to the game’s official website, Pokémon grow over during battle when defeating enemies or wild Pokémon that spawn in the arena. Pokémon can then evolve. In addition to evolving, players will get access to new moves. This mirrors the Pokémon franchises mainline games, where leveling up gives access to brand new movesets.
According to VGC, Pokémon Unite will feature a battle pass like system where new outfits for Pokémon can be unlocked. Beyond that, it is unclear if the developers will look to add new playable Pokémon, maps, etc.
