This Speaker Blasts Sound For Your Ears Only

Have you heard of the A speaker? It’s pure #objectmagic!

Unveiled at CES earlier this year, the cutting-edge audio device developed by Parisian startup Akoustic Arts blew our mind. Now, it has surpassed its IndieGogo goal and will started shipping this fall, at $350. So, what does it do?

Believe it or not, it can actually focus the sound on you, the listener and no one else, effectively camouflaging it from grumpy co-workers who dislike your musical taste or girlfriend who doesn’t share your passion for Sci-Fi series. It does so by creating a conical beam of sound (hence the A), “the same way that a laser creates a beam of light to focus on a precise area”. If you’re inside the beam, congratulations – you can listen to the whole movie soundtrack of Deadpool. If you’re not, well… guess you’re going to use headphones.

The revolutionary device is the result of four years of research in the field since it needed to provide audio quality no matter the distance and audience. Akoustic Arts says it can be used in a gallery or museum too, as a discrete audioguide.

Could this speaker bring about the death of headphones – what do you think?
