RFID chips and smart tags are so hot right now that, of course, fashion designers were bound to notice. Tommy Hilfiger is one of the first brands to embrace the idea that’s been used for tracking anything from photo gear to groceries and people during rush hour.
What’s Tommy Hilfiger doing with Bluetooth tags? The company wants to turn its customers into unofficial brand ambassadors and reward them for making the clothes fashionable.
Tommy Hilfiger’s smart tags that are connected to the iOS app will offer “one-of-a-kind rewards and experiences” to the brand’s fans, encouraging them to expand their fashion experience. It’s essentially a loyalty program for the most serious fans, keeping score of how often they wear the clothes. Also, in Pokemon Go style, they can track whether the users physically go to locations marked in the app map to find Tommy icons. If they’ll give points for hanging out with other Tommy-wearing folks in the future, we could be looking at the timeline in which Mean Girls and Zoolander are actually documentaries.
The first line to get these “tags” is Tommy Jeans Xplore, which is available just in the US via the official online store and in the 5th Avenue prestigious store.
